Look What God Did
by Cindy Allen
I just came in from my morning walk and it was 59 degrees when I started. That may not mean a lot to most of you, but right now, in East Texas, at 59-degree morning is an unexpected blessing. We are still bumping 90 during the afternoon, with nightly lows in the high 60s/low 70s. When I walked out the door, I grabbed my jacket and gladly used it the entire time
Lucy, our dog, was jumping around like a new born calf. The birds in the trees were chirping away. Six deer were enjoying some time in the pasture. God and I had a great conversation about how this weather is wonderful, and I would like it to continue.
During my conversation with God I was reminded of a scripture, Isaiah 55:8. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord.” God has a reason for the weather; he has a plan. We don’t always understand his plan but that is not our place. Our place is to have enough faith to walk through the plan with him and to give him glory as we travel.
There are plenty of plans of God that don’t make sense to our human brains. Just read the story of Joseph’s life. How many situations in that story would have made the faint of heart give up. Yet in the end Joseph was able to declare, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is not being done, the saving of many lives.” Genesis 50:20
And we don’t even have to go back so far as Genesis to see God’s plans not making sense to human minds. I have a friend whose 2-year-old grandson is battling cancer. The superintendent of a small town in our county lost his wife, the mom of two young girls, when she was hit by 16-year-old driving a stolen car. You each share sad stories.
Most of God’s plans for our lives will not save many lives, as Joseph’s did, but they are put in action to show his glory. That is what my morning walk revealed to me. God is in control, even the birds, flowers, and seasons point to that. Take the harvest moon for instance. It has been so beautiful this week. When I googled “harvest moon”, I found this. “The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, appearing for several consecutive evenings around sunset and providing extended, bright moonlight to help farmers finish their harvests before electricity.” WOW, God did that. GOD DID THAT!
On the tough days, on the long days, on the hardest days, we have faith in a God who made the moon bigger and brighter for one week during harvest time. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I can trust that God, even on a 90-degree day in October.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for looking into our lives, seeing a need, and fulfilling that need. You are very detailed, very specific. It is easy in the ups and downs to overlook your care, help us not to. Help us to lean into you and live a life that glorifies you, even in the rough patches. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Scripture: Psalm 19; John1:1-5; Isaiah 40:25-31
Response: Spend some time with God, just praising him for his wonderful creation. Take a walk, sit on the porch, look out the window. That same God is controlling things in your life too. He is faithful and trustworthy.
