Tell Me Again

As an old seasoned soul or a new believer, our rebirth came about because the gospel was told, God opened our heart to believe, and we accepted the gift of salvation.
Ephesians 2:8 (NIV) – "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—."
On our spiritual journey, God gives us a beautiful life to live. It is full of adventure, learning, serving, crying, climbing to new heights, struggling, sharing, building, falling, climbing again, etc. While our soul resides in our skin, bones, organ systems, tendons, and muscles, our flesh can lead us to develop a big case of nearsightedness. God is glorified in what we accomplish through Him and for Him in this life being carried around in our flesh.
Romans 11:36 (NIV) – "For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen."
However, spiritual nearsightedness can handicap us.
One morning a fog in the valley behind our house presented a beautiful picture of God’s creation. The outline of the tops of the trees were barely visible as they peeked gently above the fog. It was a soothing moment seeing the beauty of God’s creation while enjoying my coffee. Giving the morning a little time to develop, the sun rose and burned off the fog. The valley opened up into a display of magnificent colors including wildflowers and various tones of greens and browns on the trees. I was missing so much color and detail as my view had been cut short by the fog.
In spiritual nearsightedness our eyes focus on what we can see and do on the face of our planet where God has placed us. We can feel as if we live in a fog, not staying aware of the true beauty God has planned for us and wants us to see.
2 Corinthians 4:17–18 (NIV) – "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
At our rebirth we might feel like we stumble around on jelly legs. The thoughts of eternity with our King, our farsighted view, is what propels us forward. It is the unseen and the eternal we hope for and long for that is the true beauty we will one day see. It is our hope of what the unseen in eternity with Him will be that stretches our abilities to conquer new things through Him and for Him.
Days can get foggy living in nearsightedness. However, it is still beautiful because God our Creator orchestrates what comes into our life. We can get caught up in the here and now, as we toil in the flesh, and develop nearsightedness that can handicap us from accomplishing what He has for us to do. Applying more of the "Son" is the remedy to lift the fog. Hearing again the story of Jesus, writing on my heart every word and telling me again the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard, can clear the fog.
Hearing again about the "Son" and drawing near to the "Son" brings our farsighted view into focus. We look forward to the day when all things will be made crystal clear. There is coming a day we will see Him face to face and know Him in all His glory and fully know Him.
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV) – "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."
Tell me again the story of Jesus!
Prayer: Father, may my desire be to draw near to Your "Son" so He can clear the fog and improve my farsighted eternal view.
